Welcome
Your Future Story is a fully funded, long-term programme that helps high-attaining pupils in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset to thrive at school and make confident, informed choices about their futures. Pupils join a supportive cohort from Year 7, gaining academic guidance, personal development and access to opportunities not always available through regular school provision.
What does the programme involve?
- Mentoring – a trained Teacher Champion in school supports your child through regular check-ins.
- Workshops – sessions that build confidence, resilience, communication and teamwork.
- Scholarship masterclasses – fun, challenging academic activities that spark curiosity.
- Trips & visits – one university and one employer visit each year, moving from day trips to residentials as pupils get older.
- Community – chances to connect with like-minded peers across the South West.
- Family engagement – you will be invited to events and conversations so you can support your child’s success.
All transport, food and materials for programme trips are fully funded – there is no cost to families.
Why your child was invited
Participating schools receive a small number of fully funded places each year (usually 3–5). Using programme guidelines, teachers invite pupils who have shown strong academic potential and would benefit from – and contribute to – the programme.
How it fits with school
Activities are planned with the school to minimise disruption – typically during tutor time, lunch or occasional enrichment days. Mentoring complements academic learning and wellbeing.
Is it only about university?
No. We open up a range of high-quality pathways, including higher and degree apprenticeships and specialist vocational routes, alongside university. The aim is to help your child achieve highly and choose the path that’s right for them.
How we work with families
Evidence shows that strong family–school partnerships boost attainment and progression. We focus on practical, plain-English guidance; flexible, two-way communication; and respectful, inclusive engagement that works around busy lives. Teacher Champions and the Colyton Foundation team stay in touch through welcome events, check-ins and on-demand support.
What you can expect
- A named school contact (Teacher Champion) who knows your child.
- A local welcome event plus an online session to meet the wider YFS community.
- Regular updates and opportunities to talk one-to-one, in person or by phone.
- Advice and guidance about how to support your child at key points in their journey through secondary school
