Exploring future careers with Foot Anstey

We’re delighted to welcome law firm Foot Anstey as a new partner of Your Future Story, bringing opportunities for young people to explore careers, meet professionals and discover where their interests could take them.

Foot Anstey is a national law firm with strong roots in the South West and more than 700 people working across its UK offices, including Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol. Its teams help businesses and individuals with legal questions and decisions, from property and employment to running a business and planning for the future. For our pupils, the partnership offers a chance to discover a major national employer with a close connection to their own region.

As part of Year 2 of the programme, our Year 8 participants will visit Foot Anstey’s offices in Plymouth. They’ll get a first-hand look at life in a professional workplace, meet members of the team and learn about the range of jobs within a law firm – including roles beyond being a solicitor.

The visits will help pupils explore how skills they develop at school, such as communicating clearly, analysing information and solving problems, are used at work. They’ll also hear about colleagues’ career journeys and have opportunities to ask questions about their roles and how they got there.

Pupils don’t need to be planning on a career as a lawyer. Alongside solicitors, firms like Foot Anstey bring together people working in technology, finance, marketing, human resources and business support. The visits will introduce pupils to a wide range of careers, build their confidence and help them make connections between what they enjoy now and what they might choose to do in the future.

These visits will form part of the wider Your Future Story programme, alongside mentoring in school, university visits, enrichment and personal development activities. Together, these experiences help young people explore their options over time, with support as their interests and plans develop.

Nick Wakeling, Director of the Colyton Foundation, said:
“As our first law-firm employer partner, Foot Anstey will give young people valuable insight into the legal profession and first-hand experience of a professional-services environment – helping to build their confidence, broaden their horizons and keep future choices open.”

Bola Gibson, Executive Director for Responsible Business at Foot Anstey, said:
“We're looking forward to welcoming participants into the firm, sharing our experiences and supporting them as they consider their next steps.”

We’re looking forward to working with Foot Anstey and sharing these opportunities with our pupils and families. Further details about the Plymouth visits will be shared with participating schools and families as arrangements are confirmed.
